
From June 8th to June 12th, 2011, Bulgarian Workers’ Federation “Sport and Health” organized and held the NINTH INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ SPORTS FESTIVAL in Albena resort under the patronage of Ass. Prof. Svilen Neykov, Minister of Physical Education and Sports. Mr. Plamen Dimitrov, President of CITUB, was President of the Organizing Committee of the Festival, and he inaugurated this big international sports forum.
The Festival gathered together 2100 participants from 19 countries from Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, namely Algeria, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, France, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Lithuania, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. 16 sports disciplines were included in the festival program: mini football, beach football, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball (streetball), tennis, table tennis, chess, bridge, bowling, darts, shooting with air gun, swimming, track and field athletics, tug of war and petanque.
The CSIT BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 was held in the mainframe of the festival with the participation of 9 men and 10 women teams.
Mr. Lyubomir Vassilev, Secretary General of the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports, attended the official closing and awarding ceremony and bestowed the prizes for the complex ranking. From this year, BWF “Sport and Health” set up the CUP of CITUB Prof. Dr. ZHELYAZKO HRISTOV, which will be awarded to Bulgarian teams every year.
The first place in the complex ranking by nations was won once again by NPP KOZLODUY with 116 points, followed by “ATOM-SPORT” Russia with 106 points and BELARUS WORKERS’ UNION with 53 points.
In the complex ranking for the CUP of CITUB Prof. Dr. ZHELYAZKO HRISTOV, the gold medals were won by the team of VARNA STEAM POWER PLANT (46 points), followed by MARITSA EAST 2 TPP (39 points), and the third place was won by the players of MARITZA EAST MINE (32 points).
In the CSIT BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2011, the first places in both men and women competitions were won by Bulgarian teams – DIAL BUHOVO (men) and VARNA VOLLEY (women).
